Trustworthy Leaders

Leadership is the process of accomplishing tasks by enlisting people and their talents to the work. Every one of us is a leader. We all influence someone. We are all engaged—consciously or unconsciously—in forming the values of those around us. We are all faced with the choice, not of whether to lead, but how to lead.

TECHSTAR's Trustworthy Leaders course and text comprise an integrated course of instruction focused on the principles and skills of leadership and their effective application within an industrial facility environment. Students soon find, however, that the principles of leadership are ageless and without bound. For, not only do they apply in industry, but their worth extends to home, church, and government.

The habits and techniques of good leadership (or bad) are learned by watching others lead. Therefore, Trustworthy Leaders employs a unique sequence of visual case studies that challenge the student to analyze why the techniques observed are proper or improper. From Lincoln to Clinton, Clara Barton to Margaret Thatcher—from Bogart as Queeg to Sidney Poitier as Mark Thackery—you will journey through a fascinating series of modern, historical, and classical examples of both great and grim leaders. And leadership will, literally, come alive.

Who is this course for?

This course is designed as a primer for new leaders and a refreshing review for experienced leaders. The theme of the course is that leadership is based upon influence, and long-term influence results from trustworthy relationships.

Why take this course?

Humans learn in pictures. Consequently most of what we learn about leading comes from watching others lead-either for the good or for the bad. Trustworthy Leaders is a unique leadership course as it focuses on practical leadership techniques versus leadership theory. Through the use of multiple film clips, participants have an opportunity to view the actions of leaders and evaluate the effectiveness of the techniques they employ. As a result the course is both fast-paced and entertaining.

What will you learn?

This course addresses four important leadership themes: The Nature of Leading, Trust-Building Characteristics, Trust-Building Skills, and Building Trustworthy Teams. You will:
